Hello!

My apologies if you are receiving this a second time–for some reason, the contest list didn’t post to the website, so I am republishing it today.

I have decided that my calling is showing people how to take their greatest skills and talents and turn them into a thriving online business.  In this age of economic uncertainty and in the wake of melt downs and bail outs of huge corporations and entire industries, I am coming to deeply believe that our only true “security” lies within ourselves. Hello!

Whether you already have your own freelance writing business or dream of starting one, I would like to share a free resource with you that I’ve found to be informative, inspirational and fun.

It’s a program called Solo Pro Radio, which my friend and colleague Barbara Saunders launched a few months ago on the Women for Women internet radio network.  Along with co-hosts Tshombe (pronounced shom-bay) Brown, Bonnie Marie Kuhn and Jackie Peterson, Barbara interviews guest experts on topics ranging from pricing one’s services to selling with confidence and everything in between.  The program airs each weekday at 1 PM Eastern, with Fridays reserved for their “Friday Free for All” segments, where the co-hosts get together and discuss a wide variety of topics of interest to freelancers and solo professionals.

Barbara, who is also the director of the International Association of Self-Employed Communication Professionals and founder of Solo Pro Academy, just launched her  program “How to Charge What You’re Worth.”  That course just started yesterday, so if you’re interested, I believe it’s not too late to get on board.

OK, enough about Barbara (for now at least!).  On to this week’s list of writing contests.  Here’s to your writing success.

Writing Contest News for February 14, 2012

Hello:

I can’t get Whitney Houston’s rendition of “I Will Always Love You” out of my head.  But I don’t want to write about her.

I’d rather write about the fact that I recently became a great-aunt again. ❤ Or how John and I will soon be taking a real vacation for the first time in a few years. Or about my crazy love for Syracuse University basketball.

Or…maybe I do need to explore the vague sense of sadness I’ve felt since I learned of Whitney’s death.  I find it strange, this sadness, because I hadn’t thought of her in years prior to the news.  I don’t even own any of her CDs.  But I did admire that remarkable voice…and I find the demons and struggles that haunted her so very tragic.  Maybe writing about Whitney Houston is exactly what I need to do.

In the meantime…Syracuse University pulled off a close one tonight.

On to this week’s list of writing contests.  Here’s to your writing success.
