Monday Miscellany for April 26, 2010

Hello!
Do you ever sit down to write and realize that writing is the very last thing you feel like doing? I feel this way almost every time I sit down to work. It’s the weirdest thing; I actually love the act of writing, but you wouldn’t know it the way I procrastinate getting down to finally doing it.
If you can identify with this split personality approach to writing, it may be your perfectionist tendancy getting in your way–at least I think that’s true for me. I especially seize up with writing paralysis when I am working on something for a client, even if it’s someone who has been previously thrilled with my work (or maybe especially then, come to think of it).
As with all other forms of creativity blockage, I’ve found that the only way to deal with it is to write through it. Nine times out of ten, my thoughts and fingers take off once I get started. As for the tenth time, I generally realize that I didn’t get enough information up front to do the topic justice, so I do some additional research or talk to the client, and then I get going.
if you have tricks that work for you, I’d love to hear them. In the meantime, here’s this week’s listing of writing contests. Go get ‘em, and here’s to your writing success.

Happy Monday!
On my way into the office today, I saw a very “unhandicapped” person park in a handicap-only space…way up there in my list of pet peeves. Yes, I know not all handicaps are visible, and I know that being judgmental is something I struggle with, but come on!
OK, got that off my chest.

Miss me? Yeah, I haven’t posted here in a couple of weeks. Been busy with the ghost writers’ association site (http://iapgw.org ) and picked up another client to write for as well. I’ve had ideas for posts to this site but simply haven’t gotten to them yet.
But I didn’t want to let another week go by without posting a list of writing contests for you. I would love to hear from you regarding your experience with entering any of these.
