Slate magazine has teamed up with Significant Objects–a fiction site crisscrossed with a Salvation Army–to run short fiction contest. Readers are invited to write a story about the object pictured here, and the winning entry will be sold, along with the object, to the highest bidder on eBay. The money earned by the story will go to the winning writer.

The New York Television Festival (NYTVF) and ION Television announce their partnership on a newly created screenplay writing competition monikered “Act I: The ION Television Movie Contest”. This competition, which launches immediately and runs through November 30, offers drama screenwriters the opportunity to win a coveted development deal with the network.
One winner is guaranteed a development deal with ION Television. To enter, writers must submit a movie treatment (5 to 10 pages) and the first act of their screenplay (20 to 40 pages). The deadline for entry is November 30, 2009. Check www.nytvf.com and www.iontelevision.com for details.
